Why You Need to Look at More Than Style When Selecting Your Door Handle

Whether you’re intending an ornate style for a grand front door or a simple handle for a modern interior, there are a lot of factors that go into choosing the right door handle for your purposes.

Door handles are arguably one of the most prominent features of a door for a homeowner, and while it’s true that you want the entrance to your space to make the best impression, aesthetic should not be your only considered component. Whether you’re intending an ornate style for a grand front door or a simple handle for a modern interior, there are a lot of factors that go into choosing the right door handle for your purposes.

Security

Perhaps the most obvious consideration for external doors is the security offered by a door handle,  it is essential for the security of your building. At Carl F Groupco we have a range of door handles which comply with the latest security standards with built-in cylinder protection. The Hoppe Atlanta PAS 24 handle and Yale Quartus 2* handle are both TS007 compliant handles when fitted with a 1* accredited cylinder, such as the Yale KM 1* Cylinder. Other handles can provide similar protection, just ensure you fit alongside a TS007 3* cylinder.

Durability

Door handles, like most hardware, are only as good as long as they last. Having built-in safeguards such as corrosion-resistance is essential for door handles, especially those designed for external use as they will need to withstand exposure to the elements.

Our external door handles are corrosion-tested. If you are installing in coastal areas or locations subject to severe weather conditions, make sure to look for stainless steel handles which come with a longer 25-year surface guarantee.

Operation

It’s essential to consider the door lock that your handle needs to work alongside. With options for lever operation, key wind up and split spindle being commonplace for modern multipoint door locking systems, the handle operation will be required to ensure the correct functionality is achieved.

Pull handles are increasingly popular, particularly for composite and timber doors, usually fitted alongside a slam shut or key wind up door lock, an additional escutcheon plate will be required to house the cylinder.

Smart Technology

Technology enhancements now provide homeowners with even more choice for their door handles. The Yale Conexis keyless locking system is ideal for retrofit or new build installation, compatible with most modern multipoint door locking systems. With the Conexis L1, the customers smartphone is now their key. Using the smartphone app the customer is able to send mobile keys - they can choose to give access for a few weeks or hours (5 mobile keys are included). The app also gives the peace of mind of knowing who is home - customers receive a notification when the keys are used. Key cards, key tags and phone tags are also available and, along with mobile keys, can be revoked in an instant.
