Key points for security

John Crittenden

John Crittenden, Carl F Groupco’s Managing Director details some of the company’s best-selling door hardware ranges for The Fabricator, October 2018.

SmartSecure:
One of our stand-out brands is SmartSecure which provides electronic locking and access control. With strong security and safety benefits, SmartSecure has wide ranging appeal as doors are automatically locked on closing, which means that occupants are always secure. It is endorsed by Secured by Design and the locking technology at its heart is provided by industry brand leaders.

A retro-fit route is offered with the Yale Conexis Smart locking handle. Alternatively, for the full multipoint door route with FUHR locking technology that is electronically operated with fingerprint options for opening, a replacement door is usually required. Both options are a straightforward process for fabricators and installers.

Having been one of the pioneers of Smart Tech in the hardware sector, we have  carved a niche and we are experiencing significant growth from the aspirational domestic sector through to social housing and Housing Associations. Benefits include aesthetic appeal – the product looks good and, because it is easy to fit, it has ‘clean’ design lines … it also offers practical advantages of access control.

Carl F Groupco’s technical expertise sets us apart and this comes to the fore with SmartSecure – our staff are fully trained and on hand to provide straightforward advice … we don’t confuse the issue with unnecessary jargon. In short, we speak your language.

Emergency Panic Hardware:
We also understand that it can be time consuming translating standards into hardware selection – we therefore ensure we are well versed in relevant regulations.

One area where we offer practical and pragmatic advice is how best to achieve panic or emergency exit doors. First, it is important to establish exactly where the door set will be fitted and who will be using it - this determines what hardware is required to meet regulations. Non-public buildings, for example, where potential users have received full door operation training, require hardware to meet the EN 179 standard for emergency exits. However, if the door is to be fitted to public buildings or other premises where occupants may not be familiar with exit routes and hardware devices, it will need to meet EN 1125 for panic exit.

We offer FUHR 870 and 871 Type 8 emergency exit locks for aluminium, PVCu or timber doors plus FUHR’s CE marked  881, 833P and 834P panic locks which provide electronic or automatic locking options. Other products that we distribute include facefix Strand Antipanic gearing: the EN 1125 Motorised or Modular Touch Bar, the EN 1125 Modular Push Bar, the EN 179 Modular Push Pad and a lever or knob operated Outside Access device.

Speciality and Ancillary Products:
It is important to include reference to our speciality and ancillary products. The HS Portal by Siegenia, for example, supports the growing market for stylish, wide span doors that extend the living area of homes to encompass the property’s outside space.

Letterplates are an important ancillary item and Trojan’s TS 008 accredited Unicorn Letterplate is certified to PAS 24:2016 and is Document Q compliant.  Designed to meet the exacting requirements of TS 008, the letterplate can be installed on any door with existing PAS 24 accreditation, without the need to retest.

A Comprehensive Catalogue:
The products mentioned are just a snapshot of the fittings we distribute. With over 7,000 lines in our catalogue you can rest assured that we have the hardware to meet your needs backed by service that is second to none. We understand you can’t wait for deliveries and you need full consignments … we know that opening a box and finding an essential part is missing is not helpful.

In summary, our range is comprehensive, we focus on service and we understand the importance of reliable distribution.
